It was a full slate of action Wednesday evening as Plymouth Girls Soccer, Volleyball, and Freshman Football squads all took the field. The day brought mixed results, with strong efforts and valuable lessons for each program. ⸻ Girls Soccer – Pilgrims Fall to Westview The Plymouth Varsity Girls Soccer team hosted Westview and came up short in a 3-0 defeat, moving to 1-2-2 overall (0-1-0 NLC). Westview struck twice late in the first half, capitalizing on a deflection in the 29th minute and an own goal in the 32nd. The Warriors added a third tally off a free kick early in the second half. Despite six corner kicks and five shots on target, Plymouth couldn’t find the back of the net. Defensive Leaders: Ella Young (18 steals), Hudsen Reed (18), Lila Hanyzewski (15), and Hayden Shipley (13) led a determined back line. Goalkeepers combined for 7 saves, with Lily Drevecky (4), Eva Macey (2), and Young (1) sharing the work in net. 📌 Takeaway: Plymouth generated chances but was unable to capitalize against a strong Warrior defense. The Pilgrims will look to regroup as NLC play continues. ⸻ Volleyball – Pilgrims Sweep LaVille The Plymouth Volleyball program picked up a clean sweep Wednesday, with both Varsity and JV claiming wins over LaVille. • Varsity: Plymouth dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 victory (25-6, 25-11, 25-6), improving to 7-4 overall. • Leaders: Eva Sheedy (9 kills, 3 aces, 1 block), Jersey Hunter (8 kills), Kristin Manges (6 kills), Olivia Ringer (14 assists, 7 digs, 2 aces), Kathryn Morrison (11 digs). • Coach’s Quote: “Great win! We went in and did our jobs and played our game leading to us walking away with a win!” • JV: The Pilgrims rolled to a 2-0 win (25-17, 25-13). • Leaders: Trenity Ringer (5 aces, 4 kills), Cordelia Cofer (4 kills, 2 aces), Birkley Cooper (2 kills), Charlie Brewer (10 assists). 📌 Takeaway: Both levels displayed crisp play and aggressive serving, carrying momentum into the next contest. ⸻ Freshman Football – Rockies Fall at Columbia City The Plymouth Freshman Football team suffered its first loss of the year, falling 16-8 at Columbia City to drop to 2-1 overall. The Rockies jumped out to an early lead on their first drive when Spencer Grobel broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion pass from McKoy Gantz. Columbia City responded with a tying score and later added the go-ahead touchdown in the second half. Defensive Standouts: Marcus Arroyo and Tayveon Warner both delivered key stops to keep Plymouth within striking distance. 📌 Takeaway: Despite the loss, the Rockies showed resilience, striking first and competing hard on the defensive end. They’ll look to bounce back quickly next week.
