The Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims baseball team delivered an electrifying performance under the lights on Friday, rallying from a four-run deficit to defeat the visiting Fairfield Falcons 6-5 in a thrilling non-conference matchup. The win marks the Pilgrims’ second of the young season and showcased the team’s resilience, timely hitting, and reliable bullpen work. Fairfield jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the second inning and tacking on another in the third to go up 4-0. But the Pilgrims refused to be rattled. They began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth when Dylan Feece knocked in a run to get Plymouth on the board. The comeback gained steam in the fifth as the Pilgrims plated two more runs, highlighted by a double from Brayden Shively and another RBI from Feece. The momentum swung fully in Plymouth’s favor in the sixth inning. Trailing 4-3, the Pilgrims exploded for three runs behind a surge of energy and clutch at-bats. Preston Wolfe roped a triple to deep right-center field to drive in a run, then came around to score the go-ahead run himself. Tanner Delp and Nate Manzuk also contributed with key hits in the inning. By the end of the sixth, Plymouth had their first lead of the night, 6-4. Fairfield made things interesting in the top of the seventh, scoring one run and putting the tying run on base. But Preston Wolfe, who also pitched the final three innings, shut the door with a calm and confident presence on the mound. Wolfe earned the win in relief, allowing no earned runs and striking out three. Nate Manzuk got the start and battled through four innings, striking out three and limiting damage despite early scoring by the Falcons. Offensively, the Pilgrims matched Fairfield with six hits, but made theirs count. Wolfe finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI, while Feece added a triple and two RBIs of his own. Delp, Shively, and Manzuk each chipped in with hits to round out the team’s balanced attack. The 6-5 victory was a total team effort—offense, pitching, and defense all playing key roles. Head Coach praised the squad’s focus and fight: “This was a great test for our team. We fell behind early, but no one panicked. The energy in the dugout stayed high, and our guys came through in the big moments.”
