The Plymouth Varsity Lady Pilgrims opened their season with a spirited home matchup against Rochester on Thursday evening. Despite a late-game rally, the Pilgrims fell short, 11-7, in a high-scoring affair that showcased promising offensive production and determination throughout the lineup. Leading the way at the plate was senior Gracie Patrick, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Liz Derifield and Kyndall Marcum also contributed with key hits, while Haylee Busse added a triple and scored a run. In total, the Lady Pilgrims tallied eight hits and pushed across seven runs, with five different players reaching base multiple times. On the mound, Patrick started the game, going 5.1 innings and striking out four, before handing the ball off to Aubrey Ferguson to close out the final stretch. Despite giving up 14 hits, the Pilgrims held their ground defensively and limited damage in several high-pressure situations, keeping the game competitive until the final inning. While the scoreboard didn’t tilt in Plymouth’s favor, the team showed grit and early-season potential. With strong performances from both veterans and underclassmen, the Lady Pilgrims look forward to building momentum and tightening their defense as they continue their spring campaign.
