The Plymouth Pilgrims varsity baseball team continued kicking off their 2025 campaign with a Saturday doubleheader at home against Huntington North. The two games provided a mix of challenges and highlights, as the Pilgrims dropped Game 1 before bouncing back in a big way to take Game 2. Game 1 Recap: Vikings Pull Away Late in 12-2 Loss Game 1 saw a tough start for the Pilgrims, who fell to the Huntington North Vikings 12-2. Despite showing some early fight, Plymouth couldn’t hold off a relentless Viking offense that pulled away with a six-run fifth inning. Ethan Hall led the offense with a pair of singles and a walk, while Nate Manzuk added an RBI hit. Aiden Landis reached base twice and scored one of Plymouth’s two runs. The team managed four hits overall but struggled to find a rhythm against Huntington North’s pitching. On the mound, Diego Vasquez started and threw 1.1 innings, while Landis, Gage Metsker, and Adrian Macias worked in relief. In total, the staff gave up 12 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits, while issuing six walks. Though the game got away late, the Pilgrims gained valuable reps in the field and on the bases—setting the tone for improvements in the second half of the doubleheader. ⸻ Game 2 Recap: Pilgrims Respond with a 10-6 Victory Game 2 was a different story. The Pilgrims came out swinging and capitalized on early opportunities, plating six runs in the first inning to take control of the game en route to a 10-6 win. Preston Wolfe and Ethan Hall once again played key roles, each scoring twice and reaching base multiple times. Wolfe also contributed two RBIs, while Hall drew three walks and stole a base. Nate Manzuk was on fire at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. One of the biggest offensive sparks came from Tanner Delp, who crushed a bases-clearing double and ended the day with three RBIs. Defensively and on the mound, the Pilgrims tightened things up. Manzuk started the game and battled through three innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three. Wolfe then took over in relief and was dominant—pitching four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out five to earn the win. The team showed notable resilience, bouncing back after a tough loss and displaying their depth and competitiveness in all facets of the game. ⸻ Coach’s Take “I loved the way the guys responded in Game 2,” said Coach. “We challenged them after the first game, and they came out with energy and executed. It was a true team win—we had strong at-bats, aggressive baserunning, and solid pitching down the stretch. This gives us something to build on.” ⸻ Looking Ahead The Pilgrims (1-2) will look to keep the momentum rolling as they head into a busy stretch of their schedule. With solid leadership, a deep lineup, and promising arms, Plymouth Baseball is off to a strong start to the 2025 season.
