The Plymouth Rockies traveled to Mishawaka Thursday and Friday to compete in the 43rd Al Smith Classic. 5th ranked Junior Anthony Popi(24-2) battled his way to the finals winning 4 matches in a row. Popi finished 2nd at 285lbs knocking off the #8 and 14th state ranked kid and solidifying his place in the state rankings. Unranked Junior Wesley Smith(26-1) fought his way to the semi finals but was stopped by the #1 ranked 145lb wrestler in the state in a very competitive 4-1 match. Smith then battled back to 3rd place and put the weight class on notice beating number #6 in a 1-0 decision and dominating his 3rd place match majoring the #19 12-1. Senior Matt McCrum(15-5) and Junior Caydn Smith(21-5) had strong showings going 3-2 in the tournament. Sophomore Christopher Firebaugh(16-9) and Junior Alonzo Chantea(12-6) wrestled tough goin 2-2 for the day. Plymouth will travel down the road to face Laville next Thursday.
