The Rockies season came to an end Friday night with a 14-47 loss to Saint Joseph in Sectional 18 play. The Rockies end their season with another 0-10 season but saw improvement through out the year and have things to build on after Coach Handley’s first season as the head coach of the Rockies. The Rockies would open up play Friday with going 3 and out and having to punt the ball to an Indian team that saw a victory in week 9 over rival Mishawaka Marian in overtime and had all the momentum coming in the game. The Indians would make short work and score on a 17 yard run for the score. The extra point would be blocked by the Rockies from Alan Barrera. The Rockie offense just couldn’t find their rhythm with quarterback Exzander Ramirez back from injury and had to punt again. The Indians would score two more times in the 1st quarter with runs of 1 and a 25 yard pass to take a 20-0 lead after the 1st quarter. The Rockie defense just couldn’t figure out the Indian offense and would give up two more touchdown passes of 11 yards each. The Rockie offense did find some magic late in the second quarter with a trick play with Max Lewandowski getting a pass from Ramirez and then passing the ball to running back Michael Gibbons to get the ball down to the 10 yard line. Two plays later Ramirez would find Lewandowski on a 7 yard slant to take the teams to halftime with St. Joe leading 33-7. The Indians would score two more times in the 3rd quarter with a 18 yard run and 10 yard run to finish the night with 47 points. The Rockies would run a boot play then threw a pass back to Michael Gibbons would take the ball 28 yards for the touchdown. The Rockies were lead on offense by Gibbons, 74 yards receiving and Ramirez leading the team in rushing with 25 yards. The defense was lead by Alan Barrera with 9.5 tackles and Black Mackey with 7 tackles. The Rockies say goodbye to 9 seniors and want to thank them for everything they have done for the program. The following seniors were: Landon Harness, Daton Byrd, Alan Barrera, Thad Pletcher, Carter Weedling, Justin Garrett, Michael Sheely, Treyvon O’Leary, and Matt McCrum. The Rockies will open up next year with new opponent of Calumet at the Rockpile.
