NLC Tourney Final Round Overall, the Pilgrims went 3-2 in the Final Round of the NLC Tourney Saturday. Plymouth Results: 1S Carter Snyder (PLY) beat Tristan Anderson (WAR) 6-1, 6-1. Carter finished in 5th Place at 1S. As a senior, Carter has done a great job leading our team this season. He hasn't always had the best match results at 1S as we play a difficult schedule, but he has always stayed composed through adversity. It all came together for Carter today, as he played his BEST MATCH of the season against a solid opponent! 2S Martin Baca (PLY) beat Caleb Vincent (NW) 6-3, 6-3. Martin finished in 5th Place at 2S. During the season, Martin beat his opponent from NorthWood in three long sets. Today, Martin finished the tourney strong by winning that rematch in straight sets. We will need Martin playing well to have success moving forward. 3S Keller Bailey (WAR) beat Jake Stone (PLY) 6-1, 6-1. Jake finished in 4th Place at 3S. Jake didn't play his best match today, but he certainly didn't play poorly, as his opponent really elevated his game today. Jake finishing in 4th Place (and the subsequent points) was a big key to our team's tourney success. 1D Matt Manzuk-Easton Strain (PLY) beat Braeden Messenger-Avery Johnson (CON) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Matt and Easton finished in 1st Place at 1D. Matt and Easton didn't play their best match today (credit to their Concord opponents who played a great match and tourney), but they did enough to get a three-set win and take the NLC Championship at 1D! In a field that included some upsets and several strong doubles teams, Matt and Easton had a great tourney losing just one set in their three matches on their way to the NLC Title. 2D Nick Boren-Khareus Miller (WAR) beat Caleb Bowling-Trey Delp (PLY) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(0). Caleb and Trey finished in 4th Place at 2D. Caleb and Trey played a nice match today. The whole match was competitive and back and forth and could have either way. We had match points up 5-3 in the third set, but also fought off a match point down 5-6 in the third set to get the match into a tiebreaker. Overall Caleb and Trey continue to improve as doubles players and as a team, and provided valuable tourney points for the team this week. Going into the tourney, we were in a 3rd Place tie with Concord and Warsaw. With our performance this week, we did enough to finish in 3rd Place in the Tourney, which gave us a 3rd Place Overall finish in a competitive NLC Conference this season. It's a nice accomplishment for our team, as we finished in 6th Place last year... and finishing behind two really strong teams in Goshen and Northridge. Individually, Congrats to Seniors Matt Manzuk and Easton Strain, who were named NLC All Conference for winning their 1D position in the Tournament! Also, Congrats to Senior Carter Snyder who was voted Honorable Mention NLC All Conference for his performance at 1S this season! Congrats to the Goshen Redhawks for being 2022 NLC Boys Tennis Champions by virtue of their 7-0 record in the round robin portion of the schedule and their first place in the conference tournament today. And congrats to Daniel Love from Goshen for being named NLC Coach of the Year. I want to thank Michael Delp, the best AD in the business, for all he does for the NLC in running this tourney each year. He invests a LOT of time (especially this week) into making this tourney a great experience for all the NLC players and teams. We appreciate you Coach Delp! Also want to thank our managers, Jo Houin, Lena Houin, Bella Kain, Morgan Langfeldt, and Annie Plothow for being helpful all season and especially this week with the tourney! Plymouth Varsity/JV will end their regular season with a dual match at Culver Academy on Tuesday, 9/27/22 starting at 4:45PM. Plymouth will then start Sectional play on Thursday at 5:00PM against an opponent TBD. Go Big Red!
