Tennis - Lady Pilgrims Fall In 2nd Round of NLC Tourney

NLC Tourney Second Round 1 Singles: #2 Seed Landry Schrock (GOS) beat #3 Seed Annie Plothow (PLY) 6-3, 6-2 3 Singles: #2 Seed Sage Granberg (NR) beat #3 Seed Izzie Wray (PLY) 6-4, 6-2 1 Doubles: #2 Seed Clara Porter-Claire Reichenbach (WAR) beat #3 Seed Emma Jackson-Cassidy Riddle (PLY) 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-2 2 Doubles: #1 Seed Maddy Birk-Maggie Steiner (NW) beat #4 Seed Sophia Cantero-Lena Houin (PLY) 6-1, 6-0 Plymouth Girls Tennis traveled to Warsaw to complete the Front Draw Semi-Final Matches in the NLC Tourney Thursday. The Pilgrims fought hard, but were defeated on all four courts contested. 1S player Annie Plothow lost a competitive straight set match to a strong opponent from Goshen. 3S player Izzie Wray did the same, playing some quality tennis but falling in her match which saw her opponent really elevate her game. The Pilgrims 2D duo of Sophia Cantero and Lena Houin fell in straight sets to the #1 Seed from NorthWood as well. In the most competitive match of the night, the Plymouth 1D duo won a tight first set in a tiebreaker, but eventually fell in three tough sets to their counterparts from Warsaw. Coaches Quote: “Overall it was a rough night for us playing against some of the NLC’s best. We played some good tennis tonight, but the margin between winning and losing is very thin sometimes. I’m excited to see how we respond in the Final Round of the NLC Tourney tomorrow.” Next Match: Plymouth Varsity will play in the Final Round of the NLC Tourney Friday at Baker Park in Mishawaka.. Fifth and seventh place matches will go on as early as 4:00PM, with the third place matches on next and the championship matches on last. For Plymouth, 2S Tynley Gantz will be playing for Fifth Place, while 1S Annie Plothow, 3S Izzie Wray, 1D Emma Jackson-Cassidy Riddle, and 2D Lena Houin-Alivia Kizer will be playing for Third Place.
