The Lady Pilgrims traveled to Baker Park on Wednesday for the 1st round of the NLC tournament and the Lady Pilgrims had a great night, winning 5 of 6 matches played. In her first round match, 1 singles Annie Plothow continued her revenge tour, beating NorthWood Britton Jesse in straight sets. Britton beat Annie twice last season, including a three set match in the NLC 2 singles Championship. Earlier in the season, Annie beat Britton in three sets, but Annie last night need just two sets to get another redemption win. Trailing 5-3 in the opening set, Annie went on to win 7-5, 6-2. 2 singles Tynley Gantz drew the #1 seed from Northridge who she just faced on Tuesday night to close out the NLC regular season and lost in straight sets. Tynley was determined and played a strong second set, coming within a few points of forcing a third set. Tynley would fall 1-6, 6-7(3) and would have to play in a backdraw match against Concord and came out in straight sets 6-2,6-4 after just losing to Concord in a close three set match. At 3 singles Izzie Wray had a little trouble with her Wawasee opponent but pulled out a 6-0,6-0 win. The 1 doubles team of Emma Jackson-Cassidy Riddle dropped the first set 6-3 to Mishawaka but rallied to win the next two sets in convincing fashion 6-2,6-1. With the 2 doubles normal team player Alivia Kizer under the weather Wednesday, Plymouth called on sophomore Sophie Cantero to team up with Senior Lena Houin and together they dominated the Wawasee Warriors in straight sets 6-0,6-2. The Lady Pilgrims would take on round 2 with just semi-final matches playing at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
