By Brent Corbett | Sep 10, 2022 8:12 AM

The Rockies finally got to play in front of a home crowd Friday night when the Wawasee Warriors came to town. With the big crowd they were left with a heartbreaking home opener with the Rockies losing 45-28. In the first quarter the Rockies defense gave up the opening drive again to the Warriors with Wawasee just running the ball and finding the open lanes. The Rockies would respond with a game tying drive with Michael Gibbons finding the end zone on a 4 yard run. The Rockies defense then would force a punt and Chris Johnson came off the edge and blocked the punt recovering the ball at the Warrior 4 yard line. Exzander Ramirez would then take the ball in the end zone to take their first lead of the season. The Warriors would respond with a long 3 down pass down their sideline to tie the game. With 10 seconds left in the first half things would go the Warriors way with an interception for a touchdown to take a halftime lead 28-14. To start the 3rd quarter the Rockies force Wawasee to punt but just couldn’t get traction with Wawasee taking advantage and scoring on a 45 yard run to take a commanding 35-14 lead. The Rockies though would respond again with Blake Mackey take the kickoff 92 yards to the house to get the lead to a one score game. The Rockies then would give up a touchdown on a 1 yard run by the quarterback but would respond on the next offensive play when Ramirez hit Michael Sheely on a 56 yard pass. The Rockies would hold the Warriors to a field goal with just over 1 minute left in the game. The Rockies are now 0-4 (0-2 NLC) and head to Mishawaka to take on the NLC leading Cavemen on Friday, September 16th, with kickoff at 7pm.
