Tennis - Lady Pilgrims Lose To State Power West Lafayette

By Brent Corbett | Apr 8, 2024 10:54 AM

The Lady Pilgrims hosted perennial state power West Lafayette Saturday for the first home match of the season and came out on the short end 2-3. One singles and two singles of Annie Plothow and Tynley Gantz would lose in straight sets to quality opponents and even the score doesn't look like it both matches were very competitive. One doubles of Emma Jackson and Cassidy Riddle took the first set, but ultimately fell in three sets. The two doubles team of Lena Houin and Alivia Kizer started in a 3-0 hole but regrouped to win 12 of the next 15 games to win their match in straight sets. Izzie Wray at three singles played the longest match of the day, battling for about 3 hours before pulling out her victory. She would battle from a close first set loss to win her second set in close tiebreaker and then pull out the super tiebreaker 10-7. Coach Haeck was very proud of the Lady Pilgrims effort and wanted to see how they handled playing a quality opponent and how they would handle the pressure situations and nearly pulled out the victory. The Lady Pilgrim will host another quality opponent in Valparaiso Monday, April 8th with first set of matches starting at 5:30 PM and the Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex.
