The Pilgrims started post season play with going to the IHSAA Sectional #3 hosted by NLC foe Mishawaka in their historic Cave gym. The Pilgrims were looking to get an upset against a very athletic team in Michigan City in the 2nd game of the Sectional with host Mishawaka defeating LaPorte in the 1st game of the night. The Pilgrims would come out in the 1st quarter and move the ball and created tough shots for the Wolves holding them to just 11 points while scoring 16 points themselves with Senior Coby Walters leading the way scoring 10 of the Pilgrims 16 first quarter points. Both team would settle down and get their nerves under control and both teams would score a combined 39 points in the second quarter. Preston Wolfe would hit a 3 to end the half and extend the Pilgrims lead at the half taking a 39 to 29 led and all the momentum on the Pilgrims side. The Wolves would up their defensive pressure in the second half causing the Pilgrims to start turning over the ball and getting the Wolves back into the game. Even though the Wolves would outscore the Pilgrims 20 to 16 in the 3rd another 3 from Preston Wolfe at the buzzer had the Pilgrims with the lead going into the 4th. In the end Michigan City would use the full court pressure and some timely 3's that would wear down the Pilgrims and getting the win for Michigan City defeating the Pilgrims by the score of 60 to 71. All Plymouth starters would score for the Pilgrims with Coby Walters leading the way with 23 points to end his great high school career. Kadyn Ellery would add in 15 points, Preston Wolfe had 12 points, Trent Van Duyne ended the night with 8 points and Caleb Bowling with 2 points. Coach Grindle was very proud of the fight and resilience that his team showed last night. He was happy with the way the team battled throughout the season and is proud to be their coach and looking forward to their improvement has a team for next season. He would like to thank his seniors Ryan Tremaine, Max Lewandowski, Caleb Bowling, and Coby Walters for their dedication to the team and what they gave to the basketball program and we wish them the best of luck in their spring sports and their futures. The Pilgrims finish the year with a 8-15 overall record and 1 and 6 in NLC play.
