The Pilgrims traveled down old Lincoln Highway to the Trojan Trench to take on Marshall County Rival Triton on Saturday night. The Jv Pilgrims would get things started off and would take a 1st quarter lead 6-4 heading to the 2nd quarter. In a very physical Junior Varsity game the Pilgrims would take a 14 to 10 led going into the halftime. The Pilgrims would then struggle in stopping the Trojan offense allowing the Trojans to get back into the game and scoring 11 points in the 3rd quarter and a last second shot by the Trojans Isaiah Vaca would have the game tied going into the final quarter. The Pilgrims then would struggle on the offensive side and were unable to knock down some open shots that would allow Triton to take the lead and not look back defeating the Pilgrims 26 to 33. The Pilgrims struggle to shot for the field only hitting 1 3 pointer all night and struggled at the free throw line that kept the Trojans in the game. The Pilgrims led by Kylen Ellery with 7 points, Parker Bagley and Parker Wolfe chipped in 5 points each, Hayden Feldman had 4 points, Kaden Milliser had 3 points and Ben Nguyen had 2 points. The Varsity Pilgrims were looking to get back into the win column after losing their last 2 games to Warsaw and Penn. The Pilgrims battle in the first quarter but with trying to set a physical style of play leading scorer Kayden Ellery and Coby Walters would get 2 quick fouls calling for the Pilgrims to get to their bench early. The Pilgrims would close out the 1st quarter trailing 11 to 12. The Pilgrims would have to go deep into the bench as foul trouble would get to the Pilgrims but the offense would use their physical presence to get to the lane and get close shots to the basket. The Pilgrims would contest a lot of shots for the Trojans but Triton guard Gage Riffle would accept the challenge and hit shots with a Pilgrim hand in his face. Gage would end the night with 15 points with 10 coming in the first half. The Pilgrims would trial the Trojans at the half 20 to 31 but would get some halftime adjustments and knowing their two leading scorers would be coming back in the second half only playing just 1 quarter to start the game. To start the second half the Pilgrims would use a full court pressure defense to make the Trojan offense sped up and make some turnovers that would led to Pilgrims easy transition offense. The Pilgrims would get 21 points in the 3rd quarter and holding the Trojan offense to just 8 points in the 3rd quarter and would take a 41 to 39 led going to the 4th quarter. The Pilgrims would continue to use their physical style of getting themselves to the basket and getting to the free throw line.
