The Freshman Pilgrims traveled to Warsaw Saturday morning to finish up their season with the consolation rounds of the NLC tournament. The Freshman Pilgrims played NorthWood looking to revenge the last game when they lost to the Panthers 26 to 25. The Pilgrims got a great start the morning and would get out in front early taking a 9 to 6 lead going into the 2nd. The Panthers though would come out in a zone defense and would throw the Pilgrim for a loop and would get the Pilgrims off their game and would hold them to just 1 point in the 2nd. In the 2nd half the Pilgrims would get the zone figured out but just couldn't get the big shot to fall when they needed it. The Pilgrims would lose to the Panthers 24 to 32. Leading the Pilgrims were Ben Nguyen with 8 points, Hudson Davis with 6 points and Davis Jones with 6 Points. In the 2nd game the Pilgrims would play the Wawasee Warriors. The last time the Pilgrims played Wawasee they lost 20 to 28. The Pilgrims would battle in the 1st half taking a narrow 20 to 19 led into the break. Wawasee then took a page from the NorthWood playbook and would play the 2nd half in a zone defense causing the Pilgrims to get back into rhythm and caused the Pilgrims to take tough shots throughout the rest of the game. The Pilgrims would end up losing 25 to 32 with Ben Nguyen scoring 12 points and Landon Tyler getting 6 points. The Pilgrims would finish the season 3-17 but improved throughout the year in their ability to move the ball and create some great shots. The defense kept the Pilgrims in a majority of their games and that is something that Coach McCrammer is proud of.
