Boys Basketball - Pilgrims Get Overtime Loss To Goshen

By Brent Corbett | Feb 2, 2024 12:35 PM

The Pilgrims traveled to Goshen Thursday night to take on a underrated Goshen Redhawk team. Due to the Girls basketball Sectionals this game is always played on Thursday so that the Girl's tournament can be played on Friday to pack the gyms for their games. The JV Pilgrims got off to a slow start while the Redhawks shot lights out in the first quarter to open up a 2 to 14 deficit. The Pilgrims would find a little rhythm in the second quarter but would still trail 11 to 30 at the half. The Jv Pilgrims just dug themselves in too deep of a hole to overcome and would lose 37 to 65. The Jv Redhawks would shoot 51% from the field and 50% from behind the arc. The Varsity Pilgrims started out quick but a zone defense by Goshen slowed down the Pilgrim attack and would go on a 13-0 run to end the 1st quarter with the Pilgrims trailing 6 to 13. In the 2nd quarter it was a back and forth battle with each team trading blows. The Redhawks would take a 28 to 19 lead going into the break. The Pilgrims though would use a strong 3rd quarter to get back into the game and outscoring Goshen in the 3rd and 4th quarter to force overtime. The Redhawks though would settle down and midway through the overtime the Pilgrims would just have too many turnovers to overcome and would lose 56 to 62. The Pilgrims were led by Kayden Ellery with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Trenton Van Duyne with 17 points and Preston Wolfe with 13 points. The Pilgrims are now 6 and 10 overall and 1 and 5 in the NLC and will take on Westview Warriors on Saturday, February 3rd, with JV tip at 1 pm.
