Wrestling - Rockies Get NLC Crown, First Since 2014

The Rockies traveled to Mishawaka to compete in the NLC championships after the week before was postponed due to the winter storm. The Rockies finished 2nd in the regular season going 5-2 losing close matches to both Mishawaka and NorthWood. The Rockies were able to show off their depth in lineup with sending 6 to the finals. The Rockies would battle back and forth with both Mishawaka and NorthWood all day but in the end would end up winning the NLC and holding the crown solo with Mishawaka losing to NorthWood causing the Cavemen to finish 2nd overall followed by NorthWood. In 106 Alonzo Chantea would win his weight class, in 113 Jesse Allmon finished 5th. London Beaumont in the 120 weight class finished 6th, while Coen Kraemer in the 126 got 3rd place. Seth Wright in 132 got 2nd place, Wesley Smith in the 138 is back to back champion. Chris Firebaugh got 2nd in the 144, Caydn Smith won 150 while Braxton White in the 157 finished 4th. Aden VanDusen finished 6th in 165 weight class, while Daley Mullins in 175, Aiden Miranda in 190 and Carson Hooley in 215 filling in for injured John Klinedinst all finished 8th. Anthony Popi finished 1st in the 285 weight class. This is the first title in for the Rockies since 2014 and was a great team effort. The Rockies now will get ready to compete in the IHSAA Sectional on Saturday, January 27th with action starting at 9 am. Other teams in the Sectional are: Bremen, Caston, Culver Academy, Culver Community, North Judson-San Pierre, Rochester, Triton, Warsaw and Winamac. The Rockies are looking to win the Sectional getting 2nd place last year after winning in 2022.
