The Varsity Pilgrims were able to get off on the right foot by starting off the 1st Source Holiday Tournament by defeating the Knox Redskins in the morning game 67 to 53. The Pilgrims were led by Preston Wolfe with 17 points, Coby Walters with 13 points, and Dan Nguyen with 9 points. The Pilgrims got a hot start in the first half scoring 37 points even with leading scorer being hurt with a rolled ankle in Ellery being limited in the 1st half and not playing at all in the 2nd. The Pilgrims shot the 60% from the field and held the Redskins to shooting to 44% from the field. The Pilgrims would have 13 turnovers for the game but would force 18. The win moved the Pilgrims to the championship game to take on Lewis Cass in the rematch of last years championship match. The Jv Pilgrims would continue in the footsteps of the Varsity and defeat the Knox JV 43 to 27. The Pilgrims controlled the game from start to finish by coming out in a big first half lead with the score 22 to 8. The JV Pilgrims were led by Parker Bagley with 10 points & 7 rebounds, and Kaden Milliser with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Pilgrims controlled the glass by having 33 rebounds to Knox only have 18 rebounds on the game. The Pilgrims would then take on winner of the other game Lewis Cass who had to come from behind to defeat New Prairie to play in the championship game. In the Jv Championship game the Pilgrims would have a very physical game with the Kings. The Pilgrims would only take a 18 to 13 point lead into the half and would continue their defensive effort and only allow 7 points in the 2nd half. The Pilgrims were led by Hayden Feldman with 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Parker Bagley had 9 points and 2 rebounds. The Pilgrims would end up Champions for the tournament with the final score being 37 to 20. The Jv Pilgrims are now 8 and 1 on the season. They will play again on January 5th when they travel to Mishawaka with tip off time set for 6:15 PM. The Varsity Pilgrims would try to defend the title with playing a rematch with last years championship game opponent Lewis Cass. The Pilgrims would struggle in the first half with finding their rhythm with trailing the Kings by 12 at the half. The Pilgrims would go on a 14-0 run in the 3rd quarter to take the 5 point led into the 4th quarter. With leading scorer Ellery still dealing with his hurt ankle the Pilgrims looked for others to step up and help the Pilgrims get the win. Dan Nguyen would led scores with 17 points, Colby Walters would end the night with 13 points. Trenton Van Duyne would get 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Ellery and Preston Wolfe would end the night with 4 points and 5 points. The Pilgrims shot 46% from the field and shot 83% from the free throw line. The Pilgrims would get beat on the rebound total 18 to 21 but would force 16 King turnovers on the night while the Pilgrims just had 5. The win moves the Pilgrims to 5-4 on the season. The Pilgrims have now won the 1st Source Bank Holiday Tournament 4 times in the 5 years Plymouth has hosted the tournament with Jimtown winning in 2019 as the only time the Pilgrims haven't claimed the title. The Pilgrims will play at The Cave at Mishawaka High school after the Jv on January 5th and then travel to Tippy Valley on the 6th.
