Wrestling - Rockies Win Wawasee Invite & Girls Compete In Central Noble Invite

The Rockie Wrestling team traveled to Wawasee to compete in the December Duals and came out 5-0 and brought back some more hardware. "The Rockies went 0-4 in last years duals and to come back this year and go 5-0 really shows the commitment during the off-season", said Coach Smith. In round 1 the Rockies took on Angola and won 45-15, round 2 defeated Norwell 49 to 29. In round 3 the Rockies would go against Wawasee for their NLC regular season contest and came out 47 to 22 and then faced Northridge in round 4 going 41 to 31. In the final round the Rockies would defeat FW Bishop Luers 77 to 6. Wesley Smith and Caydn Smith would both win the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the day with both going 5-0 on the day making them both 22 and 0 on the season. Alonzo Chantea went 5-0 bringing his season record to 22-0, Braxton White went 5-0 bringing his record to 9-2 on the varsity. Chris Firebaugh also went 5-0 on the day bringing his record to 20 and 2. The Rockies will host the John Glenn Falcons on Wednesday, December 20th with JV starting at 6:45 PM in The Rock. The Lady Rockies went to Central Noble to compete in their invite on Saturday and came back with some impressive performances. The Rockies sent 4 wrestlers to Central Noble with all placing in the top 3 in their weight classes. Jaden Eskew placed 3rd place in the 106 weight class going 3-2 on the day. Jaden defeated a girl from Penn, East Noble and Peru but falling to FW Northrop & Prairie Heights. Angel Smith is back from an off season injury and got 1st place in the 127 weight class winning all of her matches. She would end up winning 4 out of the 5 matches by pin. She defeated teams from Warsaw, Prairie Heights, Wawasee, East Noble, Penn. Teyah Barnhart would place 3rd in her 132 class. Teyah would go 3-2 defeating Central Noble, South Bend Riley, FW North Side but losing to Northfield and Penn. Danica David would get 2nd place going 4-1 defeating Manchester, West Noble, Penn and Huntington North but losing to Penn in the 150-157 class. This was only the 2nd invite the girls have been able to participate in besides regular season meets and show great improvement every time they step foot on a mat.
