Plymouth Athletics Weekly Recap: Rockies Battle Through NLC Competition as Postseason Action Heats Up

October 9, 2026 | Plymouth High School Athletics The Plymouth Rockies/Pilgrims and Lady Rockies/Pilgrims continued their fall athletic seasons with exciting postseason victories, conference championship performances, and outstanding individual achievements. From the soccer sectional fields to the tennis courts and cross country courses, Plymouth student-athletes represented Big Red with determination, pride, and a championship mentality. With several fall sports entering postseason competition, the Rockies are looking to finish the season strong and bring home championship hardware. Football: Rockies Prepare for Homecoming and Sectional Push The Plymouth Varsity Football team faced another difficult Northern Lakes Conference opponent, traveling to take on No. 4 Warsaw. The undefeated Tigers defeated Plymouth 49-0, moving the Rockies to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Despite the setback, several Rockies contributed on both sides of the football. Quarterback Ryder Goodman completed seven passes for 68 yards and added 45 rushing yards. Grady Scott led the receiving corps with four receptions for 53 yards, while McKoy Gantz contributed in both the running and passing games. Defensively, Marcus Arroyo recorded seven total tackles, while Brody Lebo added six tackles and an interception. Urijah Cain and Josh Gibbons also contributed strong defensive efforts. The C-Team Rockies traveled to Warsaw on Thursday and fell 28-8. Jensen Hunter connected with Lyrik Downs for a touchdown, highlighting Plymouth's second-half effort. The C-Team now stands at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NLC. The varsity Rockies return to the Rockpile on Friday, October 9, for Homecoming against Wawasee, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Volleyball: Lady Rockies Continue Battling Toward Sectional Play The Plymouth Varsity Volleyball team faced Triton and Northridge during the week. Against Triton, Plymouth battled through a competitive opening set before falling 26-24, 25-16 and 25-16. Sophia Stein led the offense with 10 kills, while Kristin Manges added eight kills and nine assists. Olivia Gonzalez finished with 12 assists, and Claire Rosas recorded 15 digs. The Lady Pilgrims then hosted Northridge in NLC action, falling in three sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-15. Manges again led the attack with eight kills and 11 assists, while Cordelia Cofer and Kyndall Marcum contributed five kills apiece. Rosas delivered another strong defensive performance, finishing with 21 digs and two service aces. Plymouth enters the final stretch of the regular season with a 9-20 overall record and a 3-4 NLC mark. The JV Lady Pilgrims also saw plenty of competition. At the Penn Tournament, Plymouth defeated South Bend St. Joe in three sets after dropping the opening set. The JV squad followed with a straight-set victory over Triton before falling to Northridge, moving its record to 17-8 overall. Boys Tennis: Hanyzewski Captures Individual Sectional Championship One of the week's biggest individual achievements came on the tennis courts, where Liam Hanyzewski captured an IHSAA Individual Sectional Championship. Hanyzewski defeated his opponent from Hammond Central 6-1, 6-1, earning the sectional title and continuing his postseason run. The championship represents an outstanding accomplishment for Hanyzewski and the Plymouth Boys Tennis program. His performance highlights the hard work and dedication that have defined his season. Cross Country: Lady Rockies Finish Third at NLC Championships The Plymouth Cross Country teams competed at the Northern Lakes Conference Championships, with the girls earning an impressive third-place team finish. Girls — 3rd Place, 92 points Vivy Miller led Plymouth with a fifth-place finish in 20:02.10, while Brooklyn Scruggs placed eighth in 20:16.24. Additional scoring performances came from Ryleigh Schadek (22nd), Taylor Schadek (28th), and Amelia Gifford (29th). Jenna Blake and Lucy Narantic also represented the Lady Rockies. The boys finished seventh in the conference championships, led by Nolan Carroll, who placed 11th overall with a time of 16:47.12. Jaxon O'Conner, Henry Fort, Takoda Anderson, Chase Holderread, William Ogilvie, and Rusty Antrim also competed for Plymouth. The conference championships also brought individual recognition for the Rockies. Vivy Miller, Brooklyn Scruggs, and Nolan Carroll earned All-NLC honors, recognizing their outstanding performances throughout the conference season. Boys Soccer: Rockies Advance to Sectional Championship The Plymouth Varsity Boys Soccer team delivered one of the week's most exciting performances, defeating New Prairie 7-1 in the IHSAA Sectional on Thursday. The Rockies entered halftime with a 2-1 advantage before exploding for five unanswered goals in the second half to secure the victory. The win improved Plymouth's record to 7-8 overall and advanced the Rockies to the IHSAA Sectional Championship against South Bend Adams. Plymouth will face the Eagles on Saturday, October 10, with a sectional championship on the line. The Rockies will look to carry their offensive momentum into the championship contest and bring home a sectional title. Girls Soccer: Lady Rockies Earn Sectional Victory, Finish Season 6-8-2 The Plymouth Varsity Girls Soccer team opened sectional competition with an impressive 5-0 victory over New Prairie. Maia Danforth led the offensive attack with two goals and an assist, while Hayden Shipley contributed one goal and two assists. Cadence Kinney and Eva Macey also found the back of the net. Plymouth dominated the contest offensively, recording 55 shots while allowing New Prairie just one attempt. Goalkeeper Ella Muffley helped preserve the shutout. The Lady Rockies advanced to face NorthWood in the sectional semifinals, where their season came to an end following a hard-fought 2-0 loss. Despite the result, Plymouth generated 20 shots against the Panthers, while Muffley recorded 11 saves. Eva Macey and Alydiah Quint led the defensive effort with 21 steals apiece. The Lady Rockies conclude their varsity season with a 6-8-2 overall record. The JV Girls Soccer team also wrapped up its season with a 3-5-1 record and a 3-3-1 NLC mark. Plymouth defeated Wawasee 3-1 behind two goals from Alexis Gallardo and another from Nevaeh Arnold, before falling to South Bend Adams in its final match. Girls Golf: Lady Rockies Complete Fall Season The Plymouth Girls Golf team has concluded its 2026 fall campaign, highlighted by Taylynn Johnson's appearance at the IHSAA Regional. Johnson represented Plymouth at the regional tournament after advancing through sectional competition. Her postseason appearance capped a successful season for the Lady Rockies and provided valuable experience heading into next year.
