Plymouth High School Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Ron Shaffer as the new Head Football Coach of the Plymouth Rockies, bringing a proven track record of leadership, experience, and program development to the Rockies football program. Coach Shaffer arrives in Plymouth with 26 years of coaching experience, most of which came as an assistant coach at Griffith, North Miami, Maconaquah, and Lewis Cass. During his time at Lewis Cass, Shaffer was part of a highly successful coaching staff that captured multiple sectional and regional championships, helping establish a culture of sustained competitiveness. Most recently, Shaffer served as Head Coach at Rochester High School for five seasons, where he engineered a dramatic turnaround of the Zebras football program. Taking over a team coming off an 0–8 season, Shaffer led Rochester to a 39–13 overall record during his tenure, including two conference championships. The Zebras are coming off a dominant 2025 season, finishing 8–0 in Three Rivers Conference play and outscoring conference opponents 377–34. “What excites me about Plymouth Football was the culture and commitment to continued development of the program,” said Shaffer. “The opportunity to coach in the Northern Lakes Conference presents a great challenge. There is strong football played throughout the conference, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.” Plymouth Athletic Director Josh Troyer expressed confidence in the hire and the direction of the program moving forward. “We are excited to bring someone in with the track record of Coach Shaffer,” Troyer said. “We believe in Coach Shaffer’s vision and look forward to the future under his leadership. Coach Shaffer will begin immediately as he prepares the Rockies for the upcoming season and the challenges of competing in the Northern Lakes Conference.” Coach Shaffer will take over the Plymouth program immediately, beginning offseason planning and preparation as the Rockies look ahead to the next chapter of Plymouth football.
