Jv Football - Rockies Get Dominating Win Over Knox

By Brent Corbett | Aug 22, 2023 7:50 AM

The Jv Rockies opened up their season Monday night with Knox coming to the RockPile due to Calumet not having enough players to field a team. The Rockies would start slow on the offensive end having difficulty finding their rhythm and moving the ball against a tough Knox defense. The Rockie Defense dominated the game not allowing Knox to move past the 50 in the first half. The Rockie offense would finally find the end zone on a touchdown pass from Grady Metsker to Jose Fernando. Metsker would call his own number and get the 2 point conversion as well. The Rockies took a 8-0 lead into the half. The defense would continue to keep the Knox offense out of the end zone while the offense started to find their way. Both teams would be scoreless in the 3rd but the Rockie offense found their passing attack starting from a 85 yard touchdown pass from Metsker to Aiden VanDusen. Again, Metsker would get the 2 point play. The Rockie defense would get Knox to turn the ball over on downs late in the 4th quarter and thats when VanDusen on the next offensive play would take a 17 yard run to the end zone to put the game out of reach for the Redskins. The defense was lead by the defensive line and linebackers being in the backfield all night stopping the run while the secondary led by Ethan O'Leary with 2 interceptions and not allowing the Redskins to complete a pass all night. The offense was led by Grady Metsker, Jose Fernando, & Aiden VanDusen. From Coach Nixon after the game, "it feels good to be get back to back wins with the Varsity/JV squads but there's still plenty of things that we can work on before we play again." The JV Rockies will be at home again this Saturday when the Columbia City Eagles come to the RockPile. Kickoff is set for 10 am.
