By Brent Corbett | Aug 16, 2023 1:42 PM

The Lady Pilgrim volleyball teams took on the LaPorte Slicers to open their season at the Rock. The JV started the night with a tough first set losing 24-25. After a tough first set in which the Lady Pilgrims were up 11-1 the Slicers were able to capitalize on some mistakes and found their rhythm and won set 2 15-25. Coach Fagan after the game said "it's always tough to lose a set after being ahead like we were and lose the match but we have some things that we can work off of to get better for the next outing." Leading the way for the JV was Mia Hartley going 9/9 on serves and 36/39 in setting. Also leading the JV Lady Pilgrims was Emailine VanDuyne going 11/14 hitting and 5/5 on serves. The Varsity team after coming off a great victory over Rochester was up next against a very talented Slicer team. The Lady Pilgrims would end up losing the match 0-3 with the score of the sets being 16-25, 19-25, 16-25. The Lady Pilgrims did a great job of extending some rallies and never gave up throughout the entire match. Coach Fagan was very proud of how the girls fought against a LaPorte team that is always very impressive in ball control and did a good job of attacking our holes in our defense. The girls got scrappier and were diving for some shots as the night progressed and thought that our block improved as well. Leading the Lady Pilgrims was Haylee Busse going 7/10 hitting and 17/22 in serve receive. Also leading the team was Marley Christy going 5/6 on hitting and 49/49 on setting. Jersey Hunter was 13/17 in hitting while Sophie Miller was 7/12 hitting and 14/15 on her serves. The Lady Pilgrims look to bounce back quickly has the Tippy Valley Vikings come to the Rock with JV start time set for 6 PM.
