The Plymouth Lady Pilgrims basketball program hit the road Tuesday night for a matchup with Mishawaka Marian, as both the JV and Varsity teams battled the Knights in non-conference action. The evening showcased strong defensive play, emerging talent, and plenty of early-season lessons for the young Plymouth squads. ⸻ JV Lady Pilgrims Stay Perfect with Strong Defensive Effort The JV Lady Pilgrims continued their winning start to the season, defeating Marian 31–20 behind a relentless defensive performance. Plymouth’s full-court press stifled the Knights early, holding them scoreless in the first quarter and forcing multiple turnovers that translated into quick offensive chances. Ella Murphy and Hanley Feldman led the scoring with 9 points apiece. Feldman added 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks despite battling foul trouble for much of the night. Brooklyn Scruggs provided the defensive spark that defined the game, contributing 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 deflections to help seal the win. “Our team came out strong, holding Marian scoreless in the first quarter,” the coaching staff shared. “The Knights struggled against our full-court press and defensive pressure, which led to multiple turnovers and quick offensive opportunities. Our freshmen made a big impact tonight.” The victory improves the JV record to 2–0 as they look to carry that momentum into their next road matchup. ⸻ Varsity Falls Short in Gritty Battle with Marian In the varsity contest, Plymouth fought hard but came up just short in a 37–32 loss to a talented Marian squad. The Lady Pilgrims had opportunities throughout the night but struggled to find a consistent rhythm offensively, shooting just 19% from the field. Chloe Horton led Plymouth with an impressive all-around effort — 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals — while Ella Davis chipped in 5 points. Despite cold shooting, the Lady Pilgrims’ defensive intensity and hustle kept them within striking distance until the final buzzer. “We struggled to get things going offensively both finishing at the rim and shooting with confidence from the perimeter,” the coaching staff said. “Many opportunities were there to come ahead, but the rim was not our friend. These games are learning experiences that will make us stronger.” The Lady Pilgrims move to 1–1 overall and will look to rebound Saturday when they travel to Michigan City, with JV tipping off at 6:00 PM and Varsity at 7:30 PM.
